How to enjoy your work day: Five things to do before even going in

Five things to do before you go to work todayIf you believe “if it were fun, they wouldn’t call it work”, then maybe the way you kick off your day, not the job, is the real culprit. Here are ways to keep your spirits up and motivation flowing all day:

1. Coffee is not breakfast.

Skipping the most important meal of the day to grab an extra few minutes of sleep only leads to an energy crisis later. Brekkie doesn’t have to be complicated but be sure to mix complex carbs (fruit, whole grains) with protein (eggs or egg whites, cheese) for the best boost of the day.

2. Stretch yourself.

Stretching – touching your toes, swinging your arms, giving the old body a shake or anything that gets the blood moving will help you feel more alert, alive and ready for anything.

3. Make a list.

The upside of work is the feeling of accomplishment it offers. Make a list of what you want to achieve today. Accomplish those things. A bit of focus is a great way to re-inspire yourself about your career.

4. Stay sunny-side up.

Extensive new research shows vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin — produced naturally in the body through exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays — has tons of health benefits and can elevate mood. Ensure a happier day — take in at least 1,000 IU of vitamin D every day (some studies call for up to 2000 IU per day) – through supplements, milk or fatty fish like salmon or tuna (a cup of milk has 100 IU).

5. Dream on.

Winners are great visualizes – they consistently imagine their own success. What’s your goal? Dream it to make it real.
