Title: Environmental Health Officer (Food Security focused)
Contract: Perm

About the role
As Environmental Health Officer, you will provide environmental health technical services under the direction of an Environmental Health Manager or Supervisor, on behalf of Environmental Health Services, First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), and First Nations communities in British Columbia. You will provide advice on safely preparing traditional foods, canning, drying and storing. You have a background in teaching FOODSAFE and a deep understanding of the importance of traditional Indigenous foods.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or Public Health Inspection recognized by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI). Six months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with a background in either Nutrition, Dietetics or Food Sciences. Previous experience with teaching FOODSAFE and an understanding or knowledge of First Nations Traditional Foods is encouraged for applicants.
You may have knowledge of First Nations in British Columbia, including different cultures, customs, priorities, and issues. Knowledge of basic environmental health practices related to water, communicable diseases, sanitation, and health would be beneficial. Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices for the operation of monitoring and sampling equipment, as well as knowledge of data collection, record keeping, data entry, manipulation, and retrieval techniques, would be an asset.
