Pilot Car Driver:
- Front escort to warn oncoming traffic an over-dimensional load is following, by traveling appropriate distance ahead of the load and displaying an approved dimensional sign and flashing lights
- Use two-way radio to warn the load driver of any potential problems ahead, including hazards, obstructions, or pedestrians on the road ahead
- Make sure vehicles are following the route specified on the permit
- Find safe places for vehicles to pull over to allow following traffic to pass safely
- Warn motorists, using proper flagging procedures, to stop at the entrance to narrow
- Take appropriate measures and stop or control traffic as required to allow side loads to safely cross over structures as required due to width of load
- Rear escort to warn traffic approaching from the rear that an over-dimensional load is ahead by traveling appropriate distance behind the load and by displaying an approved dimensional sign and flashing lights
- Use two-way radio to warn the load driver of flat tires, objects coming loose from the load, defective lights and other potential hazards the driver may not be aware of
- Notify the load driver and/or front escort vehicles of motorists attempting to pass the load
- Complete relevant paperwork as required by National safety and legal standards
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Assisting in labor duties supporting in field trucking such as chaining down equipment, cleaning tracks
Requirements:
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license
- As this is a safety-sensitive position, all employees must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. This includes use of marijuana, medical or non.
- Must have Class 1 or have TCP ticket or be willing to take the training
TCP/LTC Qualifications
- Directs traffic and ensures safety on the roads. They signal vehicles when to slow down, stop, and when it's safe to proceed.
- Calm demeanor with good problem-solving abilities.
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills.
- Strong attention to detail

- Valid TCP Certification
- Conducting traffic control around cities, construction sites and work on the highway. Traffic Technicians design safe lane closures and traffic detours with physical setup and removal of devices such as barricades, pylons, signage and digital messaging boards.
- Execute effective traffic management plans with the proper equipment
- Protect the safety of the crew and the public by directing motor/pedestrian traffic
- Communicate effectively with dispatch staff
- Itemize truck contents
- Produce accurate & timely reporting
- Demonstrate strong decision making, critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Availability to work weekends and evenings
- Ability to stand for long periods of time (8-12 hours)
- Possess a professional and punctual demeanor
- Experience working as a Lane Closure Technician is considered an asset
Pilot Car Driver Qualifications
- A valid (non-graduated) Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving abstract is required to drive our company vehicles.
