The Assistant Aquatic Leader assists in managing the operation of an indoor and outdoor pool. The Assistant Aquatic Leader supervises and participates in the work of Lifeguard/Instructor 2 & Aquatic Instructor staff who perform instructional, life guarding, cashiering, janitorial and minor preventative maintenance tasks. An employee of this class exercises considerable independence of judgement and action, receiving general supervision from a superior who evaluates work performance in terms of conformance with established practices and procedures, the effectiveness of the instructional programs offered.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work.
- Ability to assign, check, supervise and evaluate the work of one or more subordinate aquatic staff; ability to participate in the training of instructional and life guarding aquatic staff.
- Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifesaving, artificial respiration and first aid.
- Sound knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and aquatic skills, and the practices involved in developing, implementing, evaluating, instructional aquatic programs.
- Knowledge of pool chemistry, of water filtration, chlorination, heating and related pool equipment and procedures.
Required Licences, Certificates and Registrations
- National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option (NL)
- Lifesaving Society Instructor Award (LSI)
- Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Level C current within one year (CPR C)
The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $26.87 – $31.56 per hour (2022 rate) + 10% in lieu of vacation & statutory holidays, and a comprehensive benefits package.
