Position Summary
Reporting to the Pool Manager, the Pool Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the operation and maintenance of the Green Grove Pool, acting as the supervisor on duty, providing swimming instruction, lifeguarding, and other administrative duties.
This position oversees operations and safety aspects of the pool, assists with pool activities and special events, and ensures safety requirements are met through inspection of practices and equipment.
Position Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Pool Coordinator performs the following duties:
Lifeguarding Duties
Provides lifeguard supervision of pool patrons
Provides first aid treatment when required and handles emergency situations
Maintains pool water quality to meet Provincial Health Act requirements
Supervises staff and volunteers and acts as a shift supervisor when required
Performs and documents ongoing mechanical and chemical maintenance
Ensures cleanliness of building and pool areas
Administrates cash and performs nightly cash out
Ensures proper financial procedures are followed and accurate records are kept
Ensures good public relations with public and other staff
Enforces the rules and regulations of the facility and follows operational procedures
Maintains a high fitness level (minimum Bronze Cross swim time)
Pool Operations/Programs
Responsible for promoting, in partnership with the Recreation Coordinator, pool programming to ensure maximum community utilization
Responsible for programming the pool to ensure maximum community utilization
Assists the Pool Manager in programming following the budget parameters approved by the Parks & Recreation Supervisor.
Evaluates aquatic programs for all ages within Yellowhead County and the surrounding area. Provides good communication with schools, recreation groups, organizations, special populations, etc.
Assists with distribution of promotional information such as newsletters, brochures, and posters through a variety of mediums including newspaper, Yellowhead County website, and radio for program activities.
Lesson Instruction
Provides lesson instruction
Maintains records for lessons instructed and programs provided
Provides lesson results to students
Facility Management
When senior staff person on duty:
Supervises all pool staff and volunteers.
Ensures pool facility, mechanical and safety equipment are operating effectively
Ensures documentation of operating records and maintenance checklists
Assists with training staff in all aspects of their positions including emergency procedures, safety, operating the mechanical equipment, cleaning duties and monitoring water chemistry
Assists the Pool Manager with staff scheduling
Performs other related duties as directed by Pool Manager
Minimum Qualifications
18 years of age or older
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
National Lifeguard Certification (NL)
Swim Instructor Certification (SI)
Standard First Aid & AED Certification
Current CPR Level C Certification
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
1 summer season worked as a Junior Lifeguard, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Staff supervision experience
AARFP Level 1 Swimming Pool Operator Certification
Lifesaving Instructor Certification (LSI)
One summer worked as Senior Lifeguard, or equivalent
Working Conditions
Shift, evening, and weekend work required
Must work outdoors in all types of weather
Potential of dealing with angry and/or difficult people
Physical effort required
Required to deal with multiple demands
The hourly wage is $26.04 to $28.35. This is a seasonal position from approximately May 1, 2023 to August 31, 2023.
Position will be based in Niton.
