Reporting to the Leader, Distribution and Sales, the Advisor, Buy on Board oversees the overall traveller experience from a commercial perspective and is responsible for developing the Swoop Inflight product program. The Advisor, Buy on Board’s objectives are to maximize Inflight profit by producing the maximum available ancillary sales, whilst keeping costs low. This involves procuring diverse products, regularly updating product selection to optimize the product mix, and managing product performance, all whilst adhering to Swoop’s cost business model.
This position works in tandem with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve Inflight sales, the traveller experience, and Inflight standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Work Location: The role will be required to be in Calgary with a hybrid workplace approach (work-from-home) and will be required to report in-office ~1x per week or more, at the discretion of the Leader, Distribution and Sales.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and oversee Inflight sale’s strategic plan in alignment with the Corporate objectives, budget, and key performance indicators;

Lead an interdepartmental ‘working group’ within Swoop to scope innovative catering solutions prior to them becoming company wide projects;
-
Identify opportunities to enhance service, safety, and performance;
-
Host a weekly touch point with WestJet Catering regarding product, pricing, margin, stocking levels and reporting, amongst other topics to ensure collaboration and knowledge sharing;
-
Ensure that pricing and product selections are set in such a way as to provide a value experience for the traveller, while maximizing the profit margin for Swoop;
-
Work in close collaboration with marketing and design for menu development; lead the continued effort of digitizing Swoop’s menu and onboard ordering;
-
Partner with vendors and suppliers for incentives and advertising related to Swoop’s product offering and menu;
-
Provide compelling packaged ‘meal’ offerings to upsell travellers;
-
In close collaboration with WestJet Catering, present well researched business cases on new product recommendations. Initiate requests and assist in the negotiation contracts for products and supplies;

In close coordination with WestJet Catering, review and support accurate stock levels for carts/kitting operations, galley cart configuration, optimizing appropriate stock availability, while minimizing spillage/spoilage, and unnecessary additional cart weight;

Have oversight for and review of the management and logistics of onboard products & equipment across the network, ensure optimal inventory levels are maintained;

Identify operational issues and develop recommendations on procedural changes with core stakeholders, internal and external to the department and Swoop;

Awareness and review of incident/ accident reports in accordance with Swoop and Airports;

Review site visits and assurance checks; on site audits of services rendered. Develop and track performance against key KPIs, ensuring service levels are met and corrective actions are taken as required to correct performance issues;

Assist in the maintenance of provisioning manuals with operational details/process/procedures to maintain service for Swoop's operation. Share with regional airports managers as necessary;

Record keeping and tracking of all licenses related to Inflight catering. Assist with the application of all licenses including provincial, Federal excise and customs;

Ensure requirements pertaining to food and drink for travellers and company obligations as stated on website and tariffs are adhered to and met;

Assist with hardware coordination including end user allotment and distribution, inventory forecast, PCI Compliance, hardware performance. Support Flight Attendant team with hardware issues with direction for resolutions; escalate mobility management support as required;

In coordination with Manager, Inflight, provide guidance and direction to Flight Attendants in all aspects of sales and service including compliance with service procedures, and traveller experience;

Support communication to Inflight team on updates, changes, and issues with the system or level of service;
-
Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
Qualifications and Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or another related field
-
Minimum of 4-years in a sales role demonstrating project management and strategic decision making in a fast-paced environment

Understanding of Inflight Catering is considered an asset
-
Strong data and analytical competency, with a proven track record of taking complex data and to provide recommendations and strategy to key stakeholders

Sales skillset with knowledge in pricing, product selection, margin, and promotions
-
Previous consumer goods sales experience is considered an asset
-
Knowledge of commercial airline elements, including sales, distribution, digital strategy, product development, revenue management and pricing concepts, and general airline economics is considered an asset.
