Position Summary
The Cancer Clinical Research Unit has a mandate to lead and promote clinical research within the PMH Cancer Program through standardization of processes and encouraging a culture of responsibility and accountability in clinical trials. Reporting to the Senior Business Analyst, the Financial Analyst I will be a key support to the principal investigators within the PMH Cancer Program in the analysis, reporting, reconciliation of the financial activities related to clinical trials. This analyst position requires an action-oriented individual, with an accounting background, strong technical skills, good business acumen, demonstrated problem solving capabilities and a good understanding of accounting principles. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to work with individuals from other areas to achieve objectives combined with analytical and problem solving skills, an eye for detail and the ability to initiative the follow up on items or determine appropriate steps for timely resolution.
Duties
Working under the direction of the Senior Financial Business Analyst, CCRU, the Financial Analyst I will conduct key tasks including

General ledger and account reconciliation

Generating invoices to sponsors

monitoring interdepartmental cost recoveries

Assisting with budgeting of clinical trials

Coordinating the preparation and analysis schedules, statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders

Other tasks as assigned and adhoc requests, which may include, but are not limited to, developing accounting system for clinical trials, contributing to business cases for program expansion/consolidation etc., or participating on special committees
Qualifications
-
Community college diploma (three year) Business Administration or equivalent program, required

University degree in Business Administration, preferred

Enrolment in a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., CPA), preferred

Previous experience in a healthcare and research funding setting an asset

Expert knowledge of Excel; strong knowledge of MS Office

2-3 years relevant experience

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Ability to prioritize

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently and as a team player

Experience with financial modeling

Experience with financial and cost accounting and with analyzing and interpreting large quantities of financial and statistical data; systems thinker
