Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist

The Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist supports production activities ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards and industry best practices.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English. Qualifications:

Education:

OHS Diploma or certification required
Ability to obtain CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation.
Ability to obtain National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
Post-Secondary degree in Safety would be considered an asset

3-5 years of applicable safety experience in an industrial environment
Demonstrate knowledge of the NS HSE Act and Regulations
Experience working in confined spaces is considered an asset
Ability to facilitate training and conduct effective presentations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities:

Safety coaching for all personnel, including sub-contractors
Remain a consistent positive role model with focus on continual professional development and maintenance of competency of all Advisors
Conduct safety investigation and participate in incident investigations and JOHSC meetings
Conduct new hire orientations for employees
Assist in the development of training programs to support employee training and development
Conduct focus inspections across all departments and facilities I.e paint booth, PPE, ventilation
Complete reviews of HSE policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable provincial regulations and CSA standards.
Facilitate Risk Assessments with Hazard Owner(s)
