Athabasca Tribal Council (ATC) serves five First Nations communities by providing innovative programs and services that enrich the well-being, health, and prosperity of children and families. ATC is committed to ensuring the protection of Indigenous rights, Treaty Rights, and Traditional Territories. In collaboration with our various departments and five Nations, we provide multi-service delivery to support a thriving, healthy, and self-reliant future for Cree and Dene people.
The Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Education, Culture, and Language Director. The position uses strategic communication practices to ensure key messages are consistent, clear and aligned with Athabasca Tribal Council’s mission, goals and objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for the organization’s internal and external communications along with initiatives such as the social media strategy, and supporting logistics for ATC events when needed. Ongoing monitoring of social media, news briefs, and emails on evenings and weekends will be required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead responsibility for drafting content for print, daily news briefs, and digital platforms with support from management.
Develop and implement a cohesive social media strategy for ATC events, programs, and campaigns:
Develop fresh, trending, educational, and on-brand content for ATC’s social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok.
Maintain and grow social media audiences through proactive and reactive community management strategies.
Measure social media reach and impact.
Provides support to the management team with identifying marketing opportunities, development of communication materials, presentations, events, and special projects.
Ensure ATC participation in third-party events is recognized by creating and preserving Logo and Visual Identity Guidelines.
Build relationships with external stakeholders including government representatives, companies, and other news networks.
Assist with event logistics as needed.
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, or related field.
2 or more years of professional experience developing internal/external communications, branded digital and social media content.
Intermediate level knowledge in Adobe Creative Suites and MS Office.
Strong communication, research, analytical and writing skills, including the ability to develop key messaging.
Experience with social media platforms which includes building analytical reports.
Ability to speak Dene/Cree an asset.
High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
Clear Intervention Record Check.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clear Driver’s Abstract.
