Designer / Project Coordinator
The Designer / Project Coordinator for residential / light commercial construction is a key element in the success of any project. Orchestrating the seamless integration of creative design, project coordination, client interaction, images / renderings / floor plans, team leadership, and sales support. Responsible for leading design initiatives, building strong relationships with clients and suppliers, managing project timelines and budgets, supporting sales efforts, and contributing to the growth of the residential construction wing of Jackman. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a visionary leader to shape the aesthetic direction of projects while fostering growth within a dynamic team.
Assisting clients through selection processes, and coordination of these selections through suppliers and subcontractors is an important piece of a successful project. Working with Project Managers and Site Supervisors to ensure designer / client vision is being met throughout construction.
The Designer / Project Coordinator Job Responsibilities:
· Develops design concepts and produces contract documents based on client needs.
· Meets with clients to program the project requirements.
· Takes accurate as-built measurements for developing floor plans and elevations.
· Creates design concepts and digital presentations with finish selections, furnishings, and fixtures.
· Presents design concepts and takes detailed notes to address customer requests.
· Creates project budgets and maintains up-to-date documentation of all activities.
· Manages the coordination and logistics of product deliveries and installation.
· Provides follow-up support with customers.
· Develops and maintains productive and effective relationships with customers.
Design Leadership:
· Take the helm as the design lead, guiding the selection process, conducting walk-throughs, utilizing tools like SketchUp and mood boards to communicate design concepts effectively.
· Establish and nurture lasting relationships with clients and suppliers, collaborating closely on selections ranging from flooring and lighting to plumbing fixtures and beyond.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for project coordination, interfacing with the internal Jackman team to ensure the design vision is seamlessly translated into execution.
· Assist with updating project schedules.
· Read and understand construction drawings and product shop drawings.
· Issue tender documents to subcontractors, analyze bids, and award subcontracts.
· Coordinate and document site meetings, including detailed minute taking.
· Assist in planning, coordinating construction activities
· Manage and maintain drawings; specifications; costs and material estimates; as well as subcontractor and related reports.
· Creating; circulating; logging and maintaining construction documentation (RFIs; Change Orders; Submittals; Closeout Documents; etc.)
· Assisting PM’s with general construction administrative work
· Assisting with sales / procurement
· Networking
Client Engagement:
· Conduct in-depth consultations with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and stylistic aspirations, translating these insights into cohesive design plans.
· Collaborate closely with contractors and tradespeople, ensuring open lines of communication and a harmonious project workflow.
Budget Oversight:
· Oversee project costs and budgets, crafting detailed project estimates that align with client preferences and design scope.
· Make informed decisions regarding design features, furnishings and materials while adhering to budgetary constraints.
Sales Support and Business Development:
· Contribute to the strategic growth of Jackman's residential construction division by actively participating in marketing initiatives under the Jackman brand.
· I’ll leverage my design skills to enhance the company's sales efforts by responding to and qualifying incoming leads, upselling design services to prospective clients.
Collaboration with Sales Leadership:
· Collaborate closely with the sales team to provide design expertise during client interactions and presentations.
· Assist in preparing concept presentations and design packages to support sales pitches, ensuring that the design vision aligns with clients' needs and expectations.
Leadership and Team Building:
· Display strong leadership qualities by setting a positive example and mentoring junior designers.
· Aspire to build and lead a team of talented designers, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes creativity, growth, and skill development.
· The above would have a timeline of 1-2 years depending on how the first year goes.

Key Qualifications / Skills:
· Effective verbal and written communication skills
· Programming abilities to extract information and produce reports
· Knowledge of construction
· Knowledge of industry construction costs and material costs
· Basic ability to prepare furniture cost estimates
· Creative eye for detail in preparation of design presentation materials
· Design / Floor Plan software
· BuilderTrend / Project management software
