AltaGas - Policy & Government Relations Manager
Reporting to Sr Director, External Affairs & Indigenous Relations, The Manager of Policy & Government Relations will be responsible for delivering on the company's strategic policy and government engagement goals to achieve legislative and policy outcomes that support the company's business objectives. This role will work closely with internal stakeholders to develop and execute strategic policy advocacy strategies, monitor legislative and policy developments, and effectively communicate the company's positions on key issues.
You will:
Develop and implement a comprehensive policy and government relations strategy to advance AltaGas’ Canadian business interests and export strategy with relevant government officials and policy-makers at the federal, provincial and Indo-Pacific levels.
Monitor Canadian and Indo-Pacific legislative and policy developments affecting the company's midstream business operations and provide timely updates to internal stakeholders.
Conduct research and analysis on key current and emerging policy issues, including geopolitical developments and trends in the Indo-Pacific region, and develop strategic policy positions, recommendations and advocacy strategies that advance the company’s goals
Assist in developing strategic priorities for the business that align with the broader public policy and government affairs landscape
Build and manage strong relationships with government officials and key public influencers, industry associations, and other external partners
Integrate and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including legal, communications, and business units, to ensure alignment on advocacy strategies
Represent the company in meetings with government officials, industry associations, and other stakeholders.
Develop and deliver presentations and briefing materials on key policy issues and advocacy strategies.
You have:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, such as political science, public policy, or business administration preferred
7+ Years experience in public policy, government relations, or advocacy, preferably focused on the Canadian midstream and energy export sector. required
Solid understanding of federal and provincial regulatory frameworks and political issues relevant to the energy sector
Demonstrated experience in developing and executing advocacy strategies and building relationships with government officials and policy-makers.
A solid network of key stakeholders, including both federal and provincial government officials, relevant agencies, and industry associations
A broad understanding of the legal and regulatory framework and reporting obligations of public companies in Canada
Excellent research, analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise policy positions and recommendations
Outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively advise senior management on public policy and government relations;
Strong capacity to manage ambiguity, multi-task, and pivot in a fast-paced, changing environment
This position requires the ability to travel within Canada
