Burns Maendel Consulting Engineers Ltd. is a multi-disciplined engineering firm located in Brandon, MB and our building and structures department is expanding our design team. We are seeking to add a senior structural engineer to our growing team of engineers and technologists to serve our client’s ever- changing business challenges.

Your Opportunity
Burns Maendel Consulting Engineers Ltd. is seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Engineer who will work on a variety of projects of varying size and complexity. You will work with the limited supervision of the Buildings and Structures Department Manager to lead and mentor our teams of Structural Engineers and Structural Technologists as they maintain a high level of service for our clients.
Your Key Responsibilities
· Work closely with the Department Head to obtain new projects by assisting in preparation of project proposals, budgets, and schedules.
· Take a supervisory role with technical and support staff as well as providing guidance for Junior Engineers.
· Manage and lead the team during the preparation of designs, specifications, calculations, and drawings for new builds, and structures.
· Assist in the coordination of project design and preparation of work schedules.
· Lead team members in determining viable solutions for design projects.
· Prepares and monitors project budgets. Has overall responsibility for the management of their projects.
· Responsible for project schedules and timely completion of projects.
· Serves as a senior project manager or senior project engineer on complex projects and as a designated client contact.
· Liaise with owners, architects, sub-consultants, and other project stakeholders to determine project objectives.
· Coordinate design work with other disciplines, sub consultants, clients, and project team members.
· Proposal writing and production of construction documents and specifications.
· Review construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
· Prepare engineering designs from conceptual design through to final design, including the preparation of project specifications.
· Prepare tender documents and supervise projects through construction process to final certification under the review of the Structural Department Head.
· Ability to investigate construction related issues for new and existing structures.
· Preparation and review of technical reports.
· Develop working relationships with clients.
· Develop and inspect structural and foundation designs utilizing steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
· Prepare and oversee engineering designs from conceptual design, through tender into construction.
· Take professional responsibility for work by applying professional seal to construction documents, and engineering reports.
· Marketing and bid preparation.
· Knowledge of programs and software for structural analysis and finite element modeling such as RIZA, S-Frame, STAAD or SAP, with preference given to S-Frame.
· Develop and pursue a personal and professional growth plan.
Your Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university program with a structural emphasis.
· Registered as a P.Eng. with a Canadian licensing organization, with the ability to receive EGM registration.
· 8 to 15 years relevant experience in structural design, preferably in the Canadian consulting environment.
· Strong background in design of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood design.
· Familiarity with and experience using the National Building Code of Canada, and applicable Canadian Structural Codes.
· Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work in a team environment.
· Valid driver’s license

Salary: $85,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
