Position Summary:
Reporting to Executive Director, Advancement Communications and Marketing the Director, Integrated Marketing & Strategy Planning acts as a senior advisor to the University’s divisional and central portfolios, playing a lead role in developing integrated marketing strategies and plans designed to lift the profile of the University of Toronto as a major destination for alumni and philanthropic engagement and a priority for national and international investment.
The incumbent acts as an important liaison between Advancement Communications and Marketing and partners in faculty/divisions. As such, the Director will work closely with an identified group of key university leaders and their staff to understand and support their business priorities and to recommend and ensure the development of supporting communications activities. In addition, the incumbent will develop and nurture relationships and, alongside the ED, act as a senior advisor to key executives at the University in support of their integrated marketing goals.
The Director is responsible for developing, directing and overseeing the execution of integrated marketing strategies and plans on a broad range of high-profile initiatives arising from within the portfolios of the president, deans, principals and other key executives at the University. The Director will contribute to the development of benchmarks and forms of measurement to continually evaluate and improve upon integrated marketing strategies.
The Director will develop strong working relationships with internal clients and ensure requests for marketing and communications support are dealt with in a collaborative, collegial way to effectively support key projects through strong communications counsel and high quality implementation. As such, the Director will be a strong negotiator to ensure departmental resources are effectively used and balanced between individual projects and the need for central communications that support the overall brand of U of T.

Experience:
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Advancement Communications and Marketing with strong hands-on understanding of methodologies and approaches related to the development of effective advancement marketing communications strategies and tactics that deliver tangible results.
Integrated marketing communications, with extensive experience developing strategic integrated marketing plans, often on complex topics, on behalf of a publicly visible organization is necessary.
Experience in a role that requires strategy/planning and execution.
Experience in assessing complex market landscape and create focused, integrated marketing plans.
Experience with implementing and manage marketing plans, with proven track record of success.
Proven success managing projects.
Experience leading and motivating cross-functional teams whether or not direct reporting relationship.
Demonstrated skills and experience in managing and leading staff in a unionized environment.
Experience dealing with complex human resource and labour relations management issues.
Experience managing complex issues and dealing with highly sensitive, confidential information.
Skills:
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior executives.
Ability to influence and collaborate with internal partners on strategic objectives and challenges.
Outstanding writing and editing skills and verbal communication and presentation skills.
