Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to work with the Operations and Reliability staff in developing and implementing maintenance plans for the plant. In this role you will identify and initiate maintenance projects, major equipment repairs and replacements to optimize the availability and productivity of the manufacturing facility and equipment while reducing machine downtime. We are seeking an experienced engineer or recent engineering graduate who has the initiative and drive to grow and develop through hands on experience and mentoring. The Maintenance Engineer will work on-site at our Sarnia Carbon Black Manufacturing Facility.

How You Will Make an Impact:
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will work alongside operations, reliability, maintenance, and stores teams. This role requires a safety mind-set, self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, effective time management, organization, and recordkeeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can:

Identify, recommend and implement equipment repairs of stationary and rotating equipment by working with manufacturers, OEM & RSQUO’s and outside repair shops.

Develop standard new equipment specifications and repair procedures for equipment in critical applications.
- Collaborate with Stores staff to scope out equipment rebuilds/refurbishments, failure troubleshoots and spare part requests/revisions.

Conduct conditioned based monitoring activities – vibration analysis, thermal imaging and lubrication.

Assist in the design, procurement and installation of new equipment. May develop plant-wide Standard Operating Procedures for process and equipment operation. Support and implement new product and process runs and prepare relevant documentation.

Provide guidance on material selection for maintenance and capital replacements.

Support efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.

Monitor maintenance projects and progress, external contractors in accordance with all site regulations and standards.
What You Will Bring to Cabot:
-
Post-secondary Mechanical Engineering degree (Bachelor’s/University) and generally 3+ years’ experience

Knowledge of PSM, ASME, API, NFPA, and TSSA standards/regulations

Safety awareness and knowledge in areas such as confined space entry, lockout / tag-out, hot-work permitting, etc.

Strong analytical skills: ability to gather, analyze and draw well-reasoned conclusions.

Communication & Presentation Skills. Ability to effectively engage in verbal and written communications that are timely, concise, clear, and relevant while delivering with empathy with a broad range of stakeholders.

Computers. Excellent skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Strong mechanical aptitude

Knowledge of rotating equipment design and repair

Basic knowledge of equipment lubrication

Knowledge/background in welding processes
