Vice President, Engineering and Construction
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, the VP, Engineering and Construction, is accountable for all aspects of Engineering and Construction for Transmission, Distribution and Generation including project planning, execution, delivery, and quality assurance for SaskPower. The position will have oversight on all external master contract and engineering agreements. The VP will ensure that employees within their purview are prepared to develop and operate
SaskPower as a next-generation utility characterized by an environment of accountability and high performance.
Hallmarks of success will include developing and executing a roadmap that ensures SaskPower has the capability, stamina, resource allocation and knowledge to bring to fruition the robust slate of planned capital projects and initiatives in a manner that delivers measurable value in terms of safety, reliability, return on investment, stewardship and quality. This will require unlocking and exploring untapped capacity from a committed, empowered, agile and safety-focused workforce.
The ideal candidate will be at ease building a culture of collaboration and common vision that will inspire and empower team members to embrace the transformational changes that SaskPower is embarking upon. A steady and strong communicator, accustomed to working in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders and concurrent initiatives, the VP will execute the very projects that will propel SaskPower to its future state as a low-carbon, climate friendly energy producer.
The ideal candidate will bring the following qualifications:
➢ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, Interprovincial Journeyed Trade, Diploma in
Technology or other related equivalent; and/or
➢ Professional Engineer Designation (P. Eng.), Project Management Professional (PMP), Applied Science Technologists
(AScTs), or related professional designations would be considered an asset; and/or
➢ 10+ years’ experience providing senior level leadership in the area(s) of transmission, generation, and/or distribution engineering and construction; and/or
➢ Demonstrated experience in (re)building and transforming departments and/or organizations to meet changing demands, ensuring the ability to be flexible and scalable.
➢ Knowledge and understanding of current industry, economic and social trends.
➢ Ability to work effectively as part of a senior team, providing a supportive and innovative work environment.
➢ Superior leadership and planning skills along with sound judgement, innovative approaches to problem solving and the capability to conceptualize and manage the impact of change in an ever-changing environment.
➢ Energetic leader with presence, credibility, and proven ability to successfully communicate, influence and build relationships across all levels within SaskPower, with customers and other key external stakeholders.
➢ Excellent oral, written and group communication skills including the ability to develop and present Executive and
Board of Directors briefing material and highly professional presentations, to a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
➢ Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to manage complex and confidential issues with extreme sensitivity.
➢ Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with sound decision-making abilities to enable optimal organizational performance.
➢ Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies.
➢ Must have a continuing record of professional development.
