HepCURE is a non-profit organization, operating in Ontario and British Columbia that was established to support the World Health Organization’s goal of Hepatitis C elimination by 2030. We offer the most comprehensive screening and treatment program for marginalized people.
Position Summary
The Outreach Nurse will work in an outreach mobile unit and will be responsible for performing confirmatory testing of Hepatitis C, point-of-care (POCT) and dried-bloodspot (DBS) collection, medical consultations, providing education and counselling program participants on risk factors and test results and reviewing previous bloodwork to ensure appropriate work up processes are followed. The Outreach Nurse will also be responsible for medication interventions and monitoring patient adherence on a weekly basis.

Outreach Responsibilities
Screening Services
- Ensure all program participants understand and consent to the full intake process;
- Register patients in database and ensure data requirements are entered appropriately;
- Contact the Ministry to validate health card information for program participants;
- Provide participation incentives to qualified participants with appropriate documentation
Clinical Management
Manage and oversee HCV testing in the mobile outreach settings
- Point-of-care (POCT) and dried-bloodspot (DBS) collection;
- Confirmatory bloodwork collection;
- Education and counselling;
- Reviewing and assessing previous bloodwork;
- Patient consultations
Treatment Management
Manage and oversee medication remittance and patient adherence;
- Facilitate delivery of medications to patients;
- Oversee medication remittance and liaise with staff to provide counselling;
- Report non-adherence to management immediately and support clinical interventions
Other Responsibilities
- Daily storage of medical equipment to avoid damage/theft;
- Perform clerical work such as emailing, photocopying, faxing and data entry;
- Work to resolve any issues related to clinic and patient services;
- Must be able to draw blood from clients who have little to no veins, “difficult stick” veins, collapsing and or constricting veins and the sort;
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Certificate of competence as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Diploma from a recognized RPN program or equivalent;
- Experience within marginalized and (PWUD) communities/addiction/mental health;
- Good understanding of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Standards of Practice;
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS) required;
- Ability to travel from city to city and work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Monday to Friday
