The Parks and Roads Services Branch is seeking a motivated Yard Worker to join the Stores team to support, handle and organize storage and deployment of construction materials, equipment and supplies as required by Parks and Roads operations.
Your duties will include:
- Meet with customers to determine priorities and requirements
- Determine source of supply, purchasing, maintaining, receiving and issuing materials
- Order materials to maintain established inventory levels
- Maintain accurate records of the goods receipt and issue of stores items
- Load, unload, inspect, move, store and record the movement and storage locations of materials within the stores
- Input information on various databases, as required
- Reconcile discrepancies and damage with vendors, trucking and courier companies, accounts payable and procurement staff
- Perform stocktaking and cycle counts functions while investigating discrepancies
- Key control and associated records for District Operations
- Assist in maintaining SDM sheets
- Participate in yard safety and ENVISO inspections
- Provide assistance and information to other Branches and Departments as required
- Pickup and delivery of supplies, equipment and materials
- Keep inventories and records of small District owned equipment
- Operation, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and equipment as required
- Ensure orderly placement and removal of materials and equipment stored at yards
- Maintain, clean and organize yard and yard compound space
- Responsible for snow removal around buildings and vehicles
- All work is to be performed in accordance with the Branch’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or a GED
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in stores operations
- Minimum 2 years experience in yard operations
- Completion of WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods training required
- Certification on Forklift Equipment, Tool Cat, Skid Steer and small power tools would be an asset
- Strong working knowledge of SAP (issues, receiving, cycle counts, etc.) required
- Demonstrated proficiency with technology such as Google Applications, Asset Tiger, and inventory management software
- Demonstrated knowledge of purchasing and requisitioning procedures
- Demonstrated knowledge of Inventory Control practices and procedures
- Strong customer service skills
- Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies associated with parks and roads operations
- Knowledge of application methods, safe handling and storage of chemicals and supplies
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instruction
- Physical ability to perform work functions of this position including lifting up to 50 pounds, repetitive labor tasks and working in all weather conditions
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- Ability to be accountable for all stores inventory
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work

- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent), Ability to obtain and maintain a City drivers permit is a requirement of this position
