Intermediate/Senior Structural Engineer
(full-time permanent position)
Location: Guelph, Ontario
GM BluePlan is currently seeking an Intermediate or Senior Structural Engineer that will join our Bridge and Culvert Engineering Team to provide transportation engineering solutions to primarily municipal clients. This role will involve the complete delivery of bridge and culvert projects including planning, assessment, design, approvals, tendering and construction administration.

This position generally involves:

Conceptualize and evaluate design alternatives for a range of infrastructure projects focused on transportation infrastructure (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, etc.).

Complete and review detailed structural engineering design calculations and drawings as prepared by technologists, EITs and other Professional Engineers.

Prepare professional communications such as letters, memos and reports for client deliverables.

Contribute to business development through preparation of work plans, fee estimates and formal proposals in response to RFPs.
- Develop cost estimates and construction specifications.

Provide contract tendering and administration services.
- Oversee field work including structural condition assessments, field measurements, and construction inspections.

Support planning staff with Environmental Assessment work for transportation projects.

Assist with delivery of other structural projects supporting our Land Development, Linear or Water/Wastewater design teams, as required.

Mentor and support young staff in their career development, as well as receive mentoring and support for your own development.
What you will need:

Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.

7+ years of experience in consulting engineering or a related field.

Knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario's Structural Manual, Ontario Provincial Standards and applicable legislation around bridge and culvert replacement and rehabilitation.

Experience with administration of construction contracts and on-site construction inspection.

Strong organizational, oral, written communication and problem-solving skills.

Working knowledge of AutoCAD and finite element modeling software.
Motivation to broaden experience in the areas of design, construction, project management, operations, and supervision within a multi-disciplinary consulting environment.
