Remy Consulting Engineers Ltd. (RCEL), is looking for an Intermediate Civil / Structural Engineer for its expanding team of professionals in Burlington, Ontario.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of different projects and work closely with the principals at the firm.
As an Intermediate Structural Engineer you will be required to perform various engineering assignments which requires a general familiarity with a broad field of engineering. Must be able to solve problems by use of combinations of industry standards and modified industry standard procedures, or methods developed in previous assignments. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role, you'll manage structural design of multi-discipline projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including establishment and maintenance of budgets and schedules;
Provide structural design of small to large commercial, industrial and multi-residential projects;
Preparation and/or verification of design drawings and calculations;
Working in a team environment with our other structural department personnel, management and administrative staff, you will prepare tender and construction documents or reports;
Working on a variety of small to large projects using various materials;
Ability to interact with a wide variety of clients from Architects, owners, and developers;
Knowledge of structural design software such as STAAD, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE and ETABS;
Ability to investigate construction related issues for new and existing structures;
Preparation and review of technical reports;
Mentoring, coaching and training of less experienced professionals as required;
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated skill with the structural analysis of buildings and foundations;
Demonstrated skill with the design of concrete, steel, and timber structures;
Working knowledge of the requirements of the National Building Code of Canada NBCC, and Ontario Building Code OBC.
Working knowledge of the requirements of CSA Standard A23.1, and concrete and concrete materials test methods of CSA Standard A23.2 as well as ASTM and ACI committee documents;
Working knowledge of the requirements of CSA S16 Design of Steel Structures;
Preference to experience using either CSA O86 Engineering Design in Wood, including tall timber, as well as CSA S304 Design of Masonry Structures would be an asset;
A self-starter who is innovative and enjoys working in a team environment;
Availability to periodically travel to project sites on an as required basis for 1/2 day or 1-day site visits, typically for data collection, review of construction or attendance at coordination or design review meetings;
Ability to adapt to and meet the challenges of a variety of different projects from clients in many different industries;
Proficient at AutoCAD, is required;
Proficiency in BlueBeam, an asset;
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel required;
Positive team player;
Self-motivated, detail oriented and client focused;
Ability to prioritize tasks, met deadlines and work collaboratively on multiple projects at once;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Must have a valid driver's license.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Structural/Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
Minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience in contracting/consulting within a buildings Structural team.
Experienced with the use of the either the National or Ontario Building Code.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential;
Licenced with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
Professional Licences in other Canadian Provinces or US states would be an additional asset;
