Position Overview:
The Category Specialist supports the Category Management in developing and executing category management activities, sourcing initiatives, and value analysis across all regions where Finning operates. The Category Specialist will own the RFx and contracting process as required through initiatives. The Category Specialist reports to the Procurement and Supplier Management Director.
Job Description:

Supports the Category Manager to create value, drive improvements, and realize savings across the regions in which Finning operates. Executes the category management strategy that supports the company’s strategy and Supply Chain strategy. Provides input and recommendations to the business including processes, systems and analysis of overall spending to identify new opportunities for savings and efficiencies. This will include various RFx processes as well as contract development and supplier performance management.

Develops, grows, and maintains trusted and collaborative relationships with regional business partners, contracting team partners, internal stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure that Procurement remains as a valued partner, being appropriately involved in business decisions.

Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with strategic, and critical suppliers to improve supplier performance and to ensure the most competitive total cost of ownership of goods and services is negotiated

Develop, implement, and drive opportunities to increase utilization of suppliers through identification, communications, strategic sourcing, and progress reporting. This includes supporting the development and accurate use of a tracking and measurement tools.

Understand regional procurement procedures, workflows and processes and determine opportunities for improvement and standardization across the organization. In addition, understand and ensure compliance with all applicable regional procurement laws and regulations including tax considerations

Ability to collaborate and work cross regionally and cross functionally to build trusted relationships with Procurement, technical experts within Finning and Suppliers.

Accountability:

Identify and execute process improvements and standardization initiatives

Execute and deploy long and short term strategies for the categories under their responsibility.

Responsible to support the Category Manager(s), ensuring cost saving and compliance targets are realized on an annual basis.

Responsible to build strong relationships with strategic and critical suppliers in order to negotiate more innovative and beneficial contractual agreements and service levels

Responsible to define and measure relevant key performance indicators for strategic and critical suppliers.

Participate, as required, in cross functional team meetings to discuss initiatives, assess impact, implementation strategies and contracts mobilization to ensure their effective implementation
Education & Experience:
-
SCMP designation or diploma, Business or equivalent experience in a related field
-
Preferred 5 years of experience in procurement, with a focus on category management and strategic sourcing

Experience with spend analytics tools and/or e-procurement
-
Track record of influencing authority at different levels and executing category management strategies

Positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach, able to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and passion.

Experience with Ariba/Sage/DBS/Lawson system/MRP or equivalent ERP system
