The primary responsibility of the Environmental, Health, and Safety Officer is to implement, manage, and oversee safety programs and provide the necessary resources and support required to enable field personnel to meet all of Carmichael Engineering's requirements relating to Health and Safety in the workplace, as well as those of our clients.
In this role, the incumbent would report to and work closely with the National Director of Environmental, Health and Safety.
Essential Responsibilities

Accountable for implementing, managing, and overseeing safety programs at the Mississauga Branch.
- Work closely with branch-level management on maintaining Health and Safety Management Systems and related processes, procedures, and training.

Host or co-host weekly toolbox talk meetings and ensure appropriate safety topics are reviewed in the toolbox talk meetings.

Work closely with field personnel and the branch operations team to mitigate or rectify all reported workplace hazards.
- Assist the operations and project team during the planning of high-risk tasks and ensure safety plans meet the applicable standard.

Carry out workplace/job site inspections per the health and safety program to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Carmichael’s health and safety program.

Conduct new employee Health and Safety orientations.

Make recommendations, develop corrective actions for non-compliance, and ensure follow-up for reporting to management.

Assist with emergency preparedness and emergency response.

Assist with incident/accident investigations.

Assist with developing job hazard analysis and project and site-specific safety plans.

Facilitate and coordinate internal and external training sessions for employees.

Attend and co-chair JH&S Committee Meetings and prepare agendas, minutes, and recommendations. Coordinate follow-up activities.

Assist with Return-To-Work programs.

Complete additional assignments and responsibilities as requested by Branch leadership.
Minimum Position Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Technical Field (Mechanical Engineering) or Occupational Health and Safety
- Five to ten years of field-level health and safety experience in the HVAC or the Construction Industry
- Knowledge of OHS Legislation, CSA Standards, and related legislation and standards.

Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIB Act and policies.

Must have the ability and availability to deal with unexpected incidents immediately.

Must be able to work at our Mississauga Office Monday to Friday.
