Job Description:
· Structural design of steel building structures and facilities, including calculations and preparation of related documents
· Engages in the development of structural systems and preparation of design details through sketches, electronic models, diagrams and other visual formats
· Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building’s structural systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers
· Participates in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners and contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors
· Participates in project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating
· Develops project scope, budget, staffing, schedules, and design approach for all sizes of projects
· Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents
· Participates in constructability review
· Conducts quality assurance and quality control on projects
· Assists in the development of new standards and specifications
· Oversees and manages multiple projects
· Through your inner initiative, you will use judgement to resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, delve into the investigation of design and field engineering challenges
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s in Structural Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural concentration
· Registered Professional Engineer with APEGS or Inter-Provincial Mobility
· 2-5+ years experience working as a Structural Engineer
· Has a keen inner drive to provide the best innovative solutions for every project no matter how big or small
· Continuously curious and strives to be a lifelong learner, gathering knowledge and understanding about aspects of the buildings industry
· Loves to share knowledge, experience and expertise with others to assist, mentor and coach others in their development and abilities
· Has a strong network of contacts including clients and contractors
· Consistently demonstrates full awareness of project status, scope, deliverables and budget
· Excellent knowledge of structural theory, the National Building Code of Canada, and Canadian design standards (concrete, structural steel, wood, masonry)
· Experience in construction reviews and report preparation is an asset
· Advanced knowledge of seismic design of building structures and structural design software such as SAP, ETABS, SAFE
· General understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
· Experience with Revit and AutoCAD
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with an ability to work either independently or with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
