Plains has an immediate opening for a Facilities Engineer to join our Operations Engineering Group within our Canada Central District. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, you will be responsible for providing engineering support for our Empress Plant Complex located 100 km north of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Working in a dynamic environment on multiple projects and related activities, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with operations and maintenance groups to maintain and improve plant reliability and safety as well as manage risk and assure regulatory compliance.
Permanent residency within 120 km of the Empress facilities is a condition of employment. Relocation assistance may be provided to qualified candidates working within Canada.

Responsibilities:

Provide engineering support for the Empress 1-5 and Empress 6 straddle plants
-
Complete projects related to facility maintenance and upgrades including providing material specifications, QC requirements, and construction drawings
-
Develop and authenticate piping isometrics for a wide range of piping systems
-
Lead reliability initiatives including the identification, scope definition, and estimate of reliability driven projects that will increase asset performance in terms of reliability, environmental emissions, efficiency as well as reduce operating expenditures

Manage small to medium sized maintenance capital projects and provide field support for large capital projects as required

Ensure compliance to standards and regulatory requirements applicable to engineering, maintenance, and operations activities

Provide informal coaching to Engineer in Training (EIT)

Complete root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence while providing innovative and cost-effective solutions

Provide engineering support during plant turnarounds

Participate in process safety evaluations (HAZOP)
-
Work with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Maintenance, Technical Services, Process Safety Management, Asset Integrity, Project Development, Expansion Projects, Regulatory, Environment) to deliver solutions

Manage and support condition-based monitoring programs / predictive maintenance

Other engineering activities as required #plains
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering

8–10 years of facility / operations / reliability engineering experience; preference will be given to applicants with process plant experience

Registered as a P.Eng. in the province of Alberta or eligible for transfer from another province
-
Experience with design, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment including pressure piping, fired heaters / boilers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, gas turbines, steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, and pumps

Working knowledge of industry codes (ASME Section I, VIII, B31.1, B31.3, API, and NFPA) as well as regulations applicable to oil and gas operations

Working knowledge of industry regulations (ABSA, AER)

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
-
Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Ability to make sound analytical decisions and manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously

Interest in future leadership opportunities an asset

Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
-
Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks
