The instructor is required to teach English as a Second Language to groups of approximately 15 teenagers (age 15 to 17) from 15 hours per week. Days and hours of instruction will vary according to the community and program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow the course provided by Red Leaf, adapting it as needed to accommodate the specific needs of the group;
- Be prepared with stimulating and interesting lessons, following the Red Leaf curriculum provided;
- Introduce Canadian content as provided, but not limited to, the suggestions given by Red Leaf;
- Proportion class time to include all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing, with an emphasis on oral communication);
- Speak English only with the students and strive to have English only spoken in the classroom;
- Attend training provided by Red Leaf;
- Meet with the Program Leader to discuss and prepare for the course;
- Accompany and be responsible for group on full day excursions if needed;
- Meet weekly with all members of the team;
- Give an initial placement evaluation using the placement test to group the students;
- Prepare and present to each student a short written report and a certificate of completion of studies (on forms provided) before his/her departure.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor of Education preferably with second language teaching experience OR TESL Canada Level One Certification
- Experience working with Juniors and International Students an asset
