Morrison Hershfield’s Integrated Engineering Design (IED) group provides integrated engineering solutions to institutional, industrial, and commercial clients with a focus on transit, mission-critical, manufacturing, higher education and civic operations facilities that require reliable and cost-effective infrastructure for both new and retrofit solutions. The combined skills of our engineers, technicians and support personnel with their diverse backgrounds in design and construction provide clients with a team recognized as leaders in the field.
Act as structural engineer for small, medium and large sized projects, with intent to develop skills based on training and mentoring from senior engineers on staff
Mentor junior engineering staff
Work independently on small assignments as lead engineer and engineer-of-record
Work as part of a team on medium sized projects, as lead engineer or engineer-of-record, and directing junior engineering staff and Revit production staff, with technical oversight from a senior engineer on staff
Work as part of a team on large sized projects, as lead designer directing junior engineering staff and Revit production staff, under the supervision of a senior engineer-of-record
Coordinate work with other disciplines including architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical
Select appropriate methods and techniques to obtain design solutions
Perform detailed structural design calculations and review the calculations of others
Work with Revit teams for model and drawing preparation and review deliverables before submission to client
Certify professional work
Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering, construction review, and structural condition assessments
Prepare written technical reports based on the structural analysis of existing buildings and other structures, or the feasibility of proposed works
Prepare, or assist in the preparation of, proposals to secure new work
Work within assigned project budgets and schedules
Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited university
Minimum 4 years' experience in design using Canadian building codes and design standards (the majority of the experience should be in the consulting industry with buildings related projects)
P.Eng. in Ontario or able to become registered
Experience in building design and renovation projects; design in concrete, steel, wood and masonry; and performing building condition assessments an asset
Knowledge of relevant Canadian codes (NBCC, OBC) and design standards (CSA A23.3, CSA S16, CSA S304, CSA O86, CSA S136)
Knowledge of equivalent US codes and design standards is an asset
Experience with Revit or other BIM authoring platforms is preferred
Experience with BIM360 or other BIM collaboration platforms is preferred
Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to write technical reports under guidance from senior engineers
Must be able to work in a team environment and excel in multi-disciplined projects
