REGISTERED PHYSIOTHERAPIST,
TEMPORARY FULL TIME (Approx. 8 months)
75 Hours Bi-Weekly – Days & Some evenings
(shifts may be subject to change)
OPSEU 583 Hourly Pay Rate: $36.85 - $50.55
The Physiotherapist is an integrated member of the Austin Centre inter-professional team comprising of Neurologists, Physiatrist, Nurses, Dietitian, Social Worker and Speech Language Pathologist. The Physiotherapist will provide focused assessment, treatment plans and interventions for outpatients referred from physician specialists within the Austin Centre group of clinics; Movement Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, General Geriatric Neurology, Sam & Ida Ross Memory Clinic & Spasticity Management Clinic. The Austin Centre Physiotherapist will recommend other Home and Community Care services as the individual client clinical need necessitates. The Physiotherapist in this role leads through practice excellence and functions as an expert working to full scope of professional role. This position reports directly to the Clinical Manager of the Austin Centre for operational purposes, with an indirect report to the Interprofessional Practice Chief for practice related matters.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Using validated assessment tools and outcome measures, complete individualized clinical assessments, provide intervention plans, recommendations & treatments for adult outpatients referred from specialists within the Austin Centre clinics. These patients will present with a range of progressive, complex neurological, neuro-degenerative conditions and movement disorders that impact functional mobility and quality of living.
- Work within an integrated practice model & coordinate with other inter-professional team members to optimize patient experience of care and achievement of care goals.
- Drive innovation in practice focused on the Austin Centre patient population needs informed by evidence based best practices.
- Provide family, caregiver and volunteer education to support patient needs.
- Deliver an exceptional patient & family care experience.
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Licensure in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
- Membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association an asset
- Demonstrated strong interest and expertise in neurological rehabilitation as shown by completion of post-graduate studies in neurology and Evidence of Post Graduate Neurology Focused Professional certification such as;
- HIT-ting the Mark: Exercise Prescription and High Intensity Training for Persons with Multiple Sclerosis - Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy
- Parkinson Disease: Evidence-based Treatment Strategies for People with Early Stage -Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy
- LSVT BIGTM Training & Certification for Parkinson Disease
are considered as an asset.
- Experience with medically / neurologically complex geriatric population required
- Knowledge of key therapeutic modalities in Movement Disorders and MS required
- Experience in providing clinical instruction and teaching to physiotherapy students
- A minimum of three (3) years related clinical experience is preferred
- Experience and/or interest in clinical research with a view to generating research questions and collaborating with researchers
- Demonstrated excellence in scholarly and evidence based practice
- Previous experience and/or interest in developing evidence-based programs an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), time management, organizational and problem solving skills
- Exceptional client service skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands while setting priorities and meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated skills in client/family centered care service delivery and team problem solving
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
- Demonstrated positive attendance record
- Proficient computer and technological skills (Microsoft Office) and Virtual Care delivery
- Documentation on EMRs (Meditech, Accuro)
